Reflective writing - online novel study

In our classroom, we all have a novel study that we are working with. My group, the Einsteins, are reading an action book called ‘The Angel Experiment.’ This week our task is to look closely for new and interesting vocabulary.  Along with that, we are trying to determine what we like or dislike about the story, We MUST give reasons for these likes or dislikes.

This novel is about 6 kids that have some strange powers, but I’ll tell you more about those another time. One of the main characters is Max. Max has wings, is the leader of the group and is tough and fearless. Now you might be thinking that Max sounds like a great guy who looks out for his friends...well he is.  Now, here is the first twist in the story...Max is a girl! Believe it or not SHE fights mutant erasers (wolf people) that have a massive army and is a great leader and friend to her clan.

One of the things that I really enjoy about this book is that there are a lot of different emotions and innumerable action scenes. I love stories that have a bit of magic in them and it always helps if authors use great vocabulary to help hook you into their world.

Our online novel is a great place to share our thoughts and ideas as we read the book.  It challenges us to think about the great vocabulary that we are reading, and it gives us the chance to wonder about things as we read.  I feel like I’m actually participating in the adventures instead of just reading a bunch of words.  It helps me to see what my classmates are thinking as they read the novel with me.

I’m really looking forward to continuing on this reading journey.  I have read other novels, but this one is definitely the best.  My reasons...action galore, powerful vocabulary and the opportunity to share my thoughts with classmates.

This book is a MUST READ! You will not be disappointed.

Vikings

This term we have been studying Mighty Mariners.I am learning about a viking who is named Eric the Red.
Eric the Red is a viking explorer, who was born in 950c Southern Norway and died in 1003 in Iceland.(Greenland)He was banished from Norway for three years because he killed 3-4 people. He has a son named Leif Erikson who was born in Iceland.(Greenland)
One of his challengers he faced was when he had to go back to Norway and tell someone that he found a new land and brought them back with him.Another one was that he had to choose to die or leave Norway. The very last was he had to take charge of his son.
Leif was born in about 970c and died in 1020.He had two brothers,Thorvald and Thorsteinn and a half sister Freydis. When he grew up he married a woman named Thorgunna and they had one son,Thorkell Leifsson.
Thank you for reading my story,I hoped you learnt something.

Welcome to Rangitoto

Rangitoto is Auckland’s youngest volcano and has been around for 600 years, and has a name that means “bloody sky.”

A volcano works when magma is in the magma chamber and then it builds up too much pressure and soon after, it explodes. When it blasts, the top may come off, but now the magma is called lava. Some of the lava might escape from little gaps called vents, along with rocks and ash. Every time a volcano erupts, it builds more and more layers. The more layers there are, the more a volcano has erupted.

If you ever get the chance to hike up Rangitoto, you will not only see a true standing volcano, but you will also be treated to an awesome view from the top. It may take a long time, but it is worth it!

Math Animation

My group, "The Gates" are doing an animation that shows the 8 times tables. In our show we are going to put music and heaps of graphics. If you don't know them, then this might be a good opportunity to learn them. I learned them from a movie too. I hope you enjoy it when I'm finished.
