  1. Mary L and I think that the answer is 9!

We think it is because the bike cost 140 dollars and he has already saved $68. We made 68 a tidy ten which was 70. 7+7=14 so 70 plus 70 is 140. We added the 2 from the tidy ten to 70 which makes 72. He saved for 8 months so 8x something = 72 and the answer is 9.

    1. Great work girls, it was quite easy to follow your thinking. Did you do all of the work in your head, or did you use some paper and pencil too?

  2. Dillon, Samuela, Serena and I does 140 - 68 equals 72 and 9 times 8 equals 72 witch we think its 9 months.

    1. What were the strategies that you used? How do you know that 140 - 68 = 72?

    1. Thanks for your effort boys! Can you tell me why you think it is 8 months? Remember, it is our thinking that we are trying to share, even more than an answer.

    Eleva and Alexandria

First we timed 8 with how many mouths there are.Which is 12, so 8x12 = 96. Then we tried adding 96 to 68 ( 68 is how much money he has already saved). The answer that we got all up is 164.The bike that he wanted to buy cost $140 so he would have more than enough at the end of the year.

    12 mouths is $96
The mouths that will take him to finish is 9 he will have 72 dollars.

    1. Months girls, not MOUTHS! lol Mouths aside, I like the way you looked at it for the entire year, and yes I agree that he will have enough by the end of the year. How did you decide that he needed $72?

    Jessica Grace and Porscha,

Timmy wants to buy a bike that cost $140. Timmy has already saved 68 dollars. He plans to save $8.00 dollars a month. The question says how many month does Timmy have to save enough to buy the bike? 8x9=72, 72+68= 140 so our answer is 9 months.

    1. First Me and Jessica did 8x8=64, 64+68=132. But that wasn't the answer so we did 8x9=72, 72+68= 140. So thats how we got 72

    So we think that he saved $72 in 8 months. so 68 + 72 = 140.

    2. The text ask's how many months did it take for him to save up just enough to buy the bike.
      So we know that $68 + $72 = $140
And our answer is 8 months

  9. Antonio & Jacob,

We think that in eight months Timmy will have 80 dollars + the 68 dollars he already saved. with the left over money he can buy a bike pump.

    1. 68 divided by 8 equals 8.5. You might wish to recalculate even though I do agree with 8 dollars for 5 months does equal $40.

Think that if he waits 8 more months then he will have saved $72 dollars then if you put $68 dollars with the $72 dollars then he will get $140 dollars

  12. Cheyanne, Faaao, and I have decided that the answer is 9 months. What we done is started off from $68 because Timmy had $68. First we knew we had to add $8 to every month that we pass, so we just kept on adding $8 until we got up to $140, and ended up passing 9 months.

    1. It sounds like you did some repeated addition. Can you think of another strategy that might work too? Check out some of the responses above/below.

  13. Hi Mr Barks we have been thinking of the answer was.

That Timmy has to save up to 8 months to buy a bike for him self. in the 8 months he would've got 72 dollars.
