This is a quote from a story that ran recently in the Howick and Pakuranga Times newspaper.
It was a shock when in January a $150 fine turned up in the mail for stopping for 46 seconds in a mobility space.
“It’s ridiculous. It’s the most expensive 46 seconds I can imagine,” Jessie says.
At this rate, how much did it cost for every second she was parked in this mobility space?
At this same rate, how much would it have cost her to listen to your favourite song while parked in this forbidden space?

Jay'Lee, Huelo-ata And I think the answer is Three
ReplyDeleteBecause we multiplied 46 times 3 which equals 138 but we had one problem it wasn't 150. But then we added 12 to the 138 which made 150. We looked at the 3 times tables and that's what we used to get the 12 and the 138. So our answer is Three dollars a second and that's how much the 46 seconds cost.
Cheyanne, Faaao and I think that the answer is $3 a second, because we started off doing 3x46 and that came to $138. But we had to get it up to $150 so we added 12 to $138, which made $150. That's how we got the answer $3.
ReplyDeleteSerena and Alexandria
ReplyDeleteThe first thing we did is dividing $15 dollars, but still in hundreds($150).Which is $3.50c,so that mean it is $3.50c for every seconds that costed her. This is the bit we are stuck on we don't know if we have to add or minus or times but it is really confusing. This is what Alexandria and Serena Suggested.
At this point we are stuck were but we think that we have to start with 'DIVIDING'.
ReplyDelete- Porscha&Mya
isiah and elva
ReplyDeleteare stuck but we would start with dividing
Me and Grace think that___is the answer because
ReplyDelete46x3=138, so we added 12 to make it 150.
Me and Grace's song is rolling the deep and the time was 3.50 long. But Jessie sat there for 46 seconds and got fine 150? So if she sat there for 3.50mins how much would it cost?
Helen and i we are stuck on this question but we think its times but we don't know what to times.
ReplyDeleteSarona And I really dont get this but we think this might be the right way of getting the answer first we had divide the money then we had added the 46 and take away it then we ended up with 4 we no everyones saying 3 but we had got the answer 4
ReplyDeleteTJ,Tana,Mateo,Niuma
ReplyDeleteWe timed 46x3=138 and then we add 11 but we thought it was 150 but it was 149 so we added one more in to it witch made it 150.
Evan and I
ReplyDeletebecause we multiplied 46 times 3 which equals 138 but we had one problem it wasn't 150. But then we added 12 to the 138 which made 150.
Samuela, Xavier and Jacob 4x3=12 and 12x6 which is 48 and that is what we came up with. We are stuck with the rest.
ReplyDeleteAntonio think that the Cost per second Is 3 dollars an second because we started off timeing 46x3 which equaled 138 Dollars. Then I had to add 12 which is 150. That was how much money was fined to Her.
