Camp Bentzon 2010 - my like list!

1. Swimming in the water. This was so much fun, it was nice cool water to jump into.

2. Running up intp the forest. This was a neat way to do exercise. It was a little difficult. I got through it by having a drink now and then and telling myself ‘I can do it’.

3. Jumping off the pontoon. It was so much fun because I was doing backflips and bouncing off Stevie and some of my other friends.

4. Jumping off the wharf. The height of the wharf off the water was exciting. It made me feel a little nervous but I still jumped off it. I started off the big log and then I used the smaller one.

5.Playing on the playground. I like to play tag on the playground with my friends. I never seemed to get tired of playing here.

To all the teachers and parents on camp thank you for helping us to do lot of good activities. Also for serving all the children food. I would like to say thanks to Mr Coop for cooking us the delicious food. Your desserts were fantastic!

Win or lose, tomorrow will be a fantastic day, and I hope that everyone has a great day, competing in the numerous events. Good luck everyone!

Immersion Assembly

As Team 4 teachers walked onto the stage, people giggled at Mr. Barks. He was the queen bee and kept asking the workers to do jobs. Whenever he said "wait for it", a baby would appear! Mrs. Squires was one of the workers and she fed her bee jelly while the rest of them cooled him down. Team 4 was very funny!

Team 3 Does A Great Job!

During assembly, Team 3 were up and ready to do their intriguing performance. They were splendidly good as they showed off with their buggy costumes. While they were performing, they were sharing information about the colours on other kinds of ladybugs. We enjoyed their part of the show, but what was your favorite?

Vikings

This term we have been studying Mighty Mariners.I am learning about a viking who is named Eric the Red.
Eric the Red is a viking explorer, who was born in 950c Southern Norway and died in 1003 in Iceland.(Greenland)He was banished from Norway for three years because he killed 3-4 people. He has a son named Leif Erikson who was born in Iceland.(Greenland)
One of his challengers he faced was when he had to go back to Norway and tell someone that he found a new land and brought them back with him.Another one was that he had to choose to die or leave Norway. The very last was he had to take charge of his son.
Leif was born in about 970c and died in 1020.He had two brothers,Thorvald and Thorsteinn and a half sister Freydis. When he grew up he married a woman named Thorgunna and they had one son,Thorkell Leifsson.
Thank you for reading my story,I hoped you learnt something.

My Favourite Fruit

Plums, mangoes and oranges are my favourite fruits. I like them because they taste delicious!

I like plums because they taste delicious and because they are sweet. Oranges are very tasty and juicey! Mangoes are very soft and yummy. The thing I don’t like mangoes are the seeds in the middle.

The fruit I don’t like are bananas. I don’t like bananas because have a nice taste. Bananas sometimes make me sick.

I wouldn’t want to be a fruit because I wouldn’t want to be eaten. The fruit that I really wouldn’t want to be is an apple.

Marco Polo 1254-1324

Marco Polo is a hero, an explorer. He traveled to China when he was 17! He traveled with his uncle a lot when he was a kid. Marco Polo has tones of family members and some friends.

As he was a child he traveled with his uncle a lot, because his uncle was a trader. After his mother gave birth to him she past away. Marco Polo lived with his aunty and uncle.

Marco Polo was born in 1254 and died in 1324. It was a sad moment for the people who loved him, and appreciated his research and discoveries when his journey ended in 1324.

My Culture Group, By Awhina.

Every Tuesdays and Thursdays we go to our Fia Fia culture groups. I am in the Cook Island group. My tutors are Romona's sister, Aunty and her Dad. The Positive things I like about my group include the skill of my Tutors when they do Cook Island dancing. This makes them great teachers to learn from. Another awesome thing is the beat that Romona's Dad drums up, it makes me want to dance! It is exciting being on stage because everybody gets to see the result of all our practicing and hard work.

Let me take you back to when we started getting ready for our performance. Before we started practicing, I was lucky enough to see my tutors perform our Cook Island dance at my Uncle Raymond's hair-cutting festival. This was the dance they were planning on teaching us. We were all wearing a uniform green t-shirt with purple flowers on it. I was thrilled to be with the Cook Island Group for my fourth year!

For me, Cook Island practices are fun. However there are things I get frustrated about. I get annoyed when the boys muck around and laugh while we are trying to practice. We don't end up getting things done. The library is also a stuffy place to practice. By the time you have finished a hard dance, we are all hot and sweaty and the room starts to smell.

In saying this, there are many reasons why I joined this group for the fourth time. I enjoy learning more about my Cook Island culture, and by having to use my voice a lot I will become a better singer. Hanging out and laughing with my friends during practice is another thing that keeps me doing it. The costumes we wear very fun and colourful. We wear a blue lava lava, a yellow lay, a white t-shirt and a white flower in our hair to top it off.

I hope we do well at the School Performance Night, and I hope there are culture groups next year and the year after. I think everyone who isn't already in a Culture Group should join one, because it is a great way to learn about your culture and have a fun time.

Acrosstic poem Cross Country

Cross country is a lot of hard work.
Running is fun and good excise.
Once I came fifth in the cross country run.
Some times I say to my self in cross country you can do it!
Saying to my self come on Jarna, don’t give up.

Coming close to the finish line over taking two more people, I made it.
On the starting line anxiously waiting for the clap, ‘BANG!’
Under a lot of pressure at the end of the race trying to win.
Nothing stopping me from coming near the front.
Trying to bet the people in front of you, it’s so hard.
Running as fast as you can to get to the finish line no one stopping you.
You can do it, nothing is holding you back from coming first.

My Teacher Mr Barks!

Who likes Mr Barks? I do, especially at the beginning of the year. Straight after we went to class Mr Barks was funny and told jokes. He’s a really cool guy, person, when you get to know him.

Our teacher, Mr Barks, Is apart of a sailing club which has helped us quite a lot with our topic. He has told the main parts of a boat and lots of knots. Mr Barks is an awesome teacher same as every other teacher but Mr Barks is a bit funnier and different.

Mr Barks has a great family. In his family there's Mrs Barks his wife, Laurien, his daughter, and his son Cam. Mr Barks children sound like they really enjoy having of fun and playing music.

My teacher Mr Barks has helped me a lot, and when I can’t do something he will say keep going, you can do it and don’t give up! He is a very kind person, and that’s why I like Mr Barks.

What's Your Song?

Thanks to Miss King for helping us get our movie up on the blog...yes she is AMAZING!!!!!(She paid us to write this)

Now that the formalities are out of the way, why don't we tell you all a little bit about this terrific movie. Room 18 has been studying the "Mighty Mariners" and decided to work some creative music into our learning. We found some challenges for ourselves, as well as the mariners that we were studying and simply asked the question... IF THIS WAS THE CHALLENGE, THEN WHAT WOULD THE SONG BE TO GO ALONG WITH IT? As you'll soon see, we learned heaps, and had some fun along this learning journey. We hope your enjoy our efforts!

The weekend I had at my mum's Awhina

With great excitement, I was happy because I was going to my mum's for the weekend.I like going to my mum's because she spoils me.

On Saturday we were going to spend the day at the swimming pools. My mum, sisters, friends and I were going. When we got there we payed ourselves in then we raced to get changed. Then we jumped straight in to the pool. It was freezing cold! When my sister's jumped in I was excited because we were going to have a swimming competition. I was the only one who won besides my mum. When my mum and my sister went out they went to the takeaways to get some lunch. When they came back we had to get out and have something to eat. After that we had to wait half and hour to get back in the pool. After 4.00 clock we had to go and pick up my dad from work then we were going to get some dinner. Then we went back home to have dinner.(KFC) YUM!

On Sunday we went o my little cousin's birthday. His name is Johnny. When we got there they were already eating. After a little play around we played musical chairs. And i won! Then we played pass the parcel and my baby cousin won it. After that we played treasure hunt and my sister Denim won it. She won a bouncy ball. After that we had a little play then we packed up then it was adults night across the road at my uncles house.

That was a great weekend and I hope I get to do that next week.

The Dream I had!!!

With great fright, I had a scary dream that my family were vampires that kept trying to eat other people. They had been going around the town looking scary and eating humans. The scary part was that I saw lots of blood on the street. The only one they didn’t eat was my sister and I.

The Magnificent Ted Ashbey

The maritime museum was cool because we got to go aboard the Ted Ashbey, make stuff and go on a tour with Salty Sam. It was fantastic because we learned more stuff about our mighty mariners.
Anxiously waiting to get on board the Ted Ashbey I talked to my pop as I tried to keep balance on the jetty, rail. Finally we made it off the jetty and into the boat.

As we got on, one of the crew members asked some people if they wanted to help put the sail up and I was one of them. It felt like I was one of the crew members as I helped put up the humongous sail.

During the ride we saw a fantastic view of the sky tower and the harbour bridge. As I look down at the sea the waves made me feel relaxed. Looking up as we went under the harbour bridge we saw lots of cars trucks and all of that stuff.

At the end of the ride on the boat we all said good bye to the sailors and the Ted Ashbey. I wish that we can go on another ride on the Ted Ashbey with our class.

My Favourite Teacher's

Hey Pt England, do know who my favourite teacher's are? Well let me describe one of them. She has blond hair and she is so very tall, she use to teach room 8 and I guess some of you know who she is and well the last thing is that she now teaches one of the year 7 classes. The other teacher is very tall too he is very good at sailing and he teaches in my class, loves to play gridiron, is very kind and he is cool. Both of the teachers are so awesome and great. Now if you want to guess who they are then please write it in your comment. Well that's all for now I hope you have a great day Pt England bye bye, see you next time!!!

I do, anyway I really enjoy playing sports because it’s a lot of fun, great excises, lots of hard work, and just great to play. Some of the sports I enjoy playing are touch, softball, GRIDIRON touch!!! (yeah MR BARKS played that sport.), swimming and many more, But there’s one sport I enjoy playing and it’s my favourite sport, so if you want to guess what that sport is, then please can you write it in your comment. Keep posting all you bloggers out there, see you next time!

The Life Of Christopher Columbus

Christopher Columbus was a famous Italian explorer. He traveled to Iceland when he was only 16. Sailing the seas was something he always wanted to do.

Born in 1451, Christopher Columbus grew up in Geona,Italy. When he was older he had two kids, Diego and Fernando. They both had different mothers. His family moved to Savona, which is another town in Italy, when he was 19.

International Marine Signal Flags!

Marine signal flags are a complete set of flags use to communicate on the water. You can use them to spell out any message. There are some flags that have other meanings, especially if they are used with other flags. For example, "DX" means that this ship is sinking. (I guess it won't be flying this flag for too long), a "C" means "yes", and "N" means "no". We have put together a slide show with some of the letters and the meaning behind them. I think it would be difficult to communicate well with flags.

Marine communication

This year Pt England is learning about mighty mariners.
My class, room 18 is learning about marine communication.
I will be talking about marine communication. The army
people have there own alphabet. They have there own
alphabet because when they are communicating they could
easily get confused for an example, if they say c,b,d,e or
some other letters they would some how think its another
letter.when they talk to each other through the walkeytalkey
its hard for them to understand so they came up with an idea
to make an alphabet so they could easily understand. They
decided to say Alpha,Bravo,Charlie,Delta,Echo,Foxtrot and
many more.

Trying to avoid the wobbling jetty ( little bridge near water ) I was balancing as I got aboard the flat bottom yacht called the Ted Ashby.

I was filming so I couldn't see everything. Jarna wanted a turn so I was happy because I could go and see things on board. I saw several knots including the bowline ,figure eight and I think the reef knot. It was very exciting to be on the yacht and a very good example of how sailors feel on a boat.

As soon as we got off ,we got our lunch and had a feed or went to Salty Sam and he was a very weird man but very funny in a weird way.My highlight would be getting out there and feeling very free.

I would like to say thanks to the people at the maritime museum
and letting our school participate in this activity. :)

My dream NRL dream team would have to be billy Slater as 1 from the Melbourne Storms because he has a lot of experienced at the back, Lote Tiquri 2 from the fierce West Tigers,Tamana Tahu 3 from the stinging Eels ,Greg Inglis 4 coming from the striking Storms ,Jarryd Hayne 5 from the from the sparking Paramatter Eels,Benji Marshell 6 from the growling West Tigers and Jonathan Thurston the stampeding cowboys as number 7. These backs are very extremely dangerous players to play against, there very good.these are just some of the backs that i am showing you , there are plenty more that are really fierce and talented. Here are the forwards. number 8 would have to be the retired Ruben wiki the mighty warriors. Ummmm uh number nine would have to be Issac Luke from the south Sydney Rabbitohs number 10 is Fuifui Moimoi representing the smooth Eels and 11 would probably Have to go to Sam Thaiday from the Brisbane Broncos and 12 easily goes to another retired extraordinary player Sonny Bill Williams from the Canterbury Bulldogs and last but not least 13 Micheal luck from the NEW ZEALAND WARRIORS!!!!!!!

finally that's over , this is my NRL dream team. And again these are just some of the very fierce an staring players in NRL thank you for reading.

Marco Polos life 1254-1324

Marco Polo was a explorer, a hero. He traveled to china when he was 17 years old. He has lots of family members and friends. He went to jail in 1280. He was born in 1254 and died in 1324. His childhood was mostly traveling.

When Marco Polo was 17 he traveled to China with his uncle, Maffeo Polo and his father, Niccolo Polo. This was his first ever adventure on a boat. They went there because his father and uncle were traders and had to trade something in China.

Marco Polo's childhood was mostly spent on traveling with his uncle because he was a trader same as his father. He lived with his uncle and aunt because his mother died after giving birth to him.

Marco Polo has lots of family members like his father and uncle, Niccolo Polo and Maffeo Polo also his aunt and his mother and many more. His best friend was Christopher Columbus, and they did everything together.

Marco Polo went to jail in 1280 because he got captured in war by some bad people, and stayed in jail for a very long time.

His journey started in 1254 and his journey ended in 1324 8 January. People were sad, Upset, and disappointed because all of that research and discovery is finished. I think Marco Polo was a hero and also a great Italian explorer

Ted Ashby Sailing!

Tieing The Knot!

This is a short video that shows how to tie a reef knot. I hope this helps you. A reef knot is sometimes called a "thief" knot because sailors used this to tie up their belongings and it was easy to tell if someone was in your things. Interesting!

Maritime Museum Trip

Team 4 went on a trip to the Maritime Museum. We went on the Ted Ashby (sailboat.)
While we were sailing, we had a fantastic view of the Harbour Bridge. We also enjoyed seeing Rangitoto along with other yachts that were out enjoying the water. I really liked the tall masts swaying in the wind!

Ted Ashby - Scow

Walking over to the Ted Ashby, we were told to put on rain coats. At first I was scared, but I slowly got over it.
Moving along the water, we could all hear the waves and feel the cold wind coming towards us. Even though it was some people's first time going out to sea, we were all happy.

Jarryd hayne

Jarryed Hayne

Jarryd Hayne is my favorite player in NRL. He has a very good side that haven't been very good this year EELS. Last year the EELS made it to the grand final with the highly paid team the STORM. Sadly the EELS lost but, Jarryd Hayne was the player of the year.

He has very fancy boots which he wears, yellow Nike boots ,they are very bright and a lot of people have them, in fac
t I have some of my own. Jarryd Hayne plays in State of Origin for New South wales which have lost for 5 years and the victorious team Queensland which have embarrassed New South wales for a long time.

Jarred Hayne has a enemy in STORM called Billy the kid Slater . They have had a fight and Billy Slater got luck because he never suspended and Jarred Hayne did.

Treasure Thieves

In the early 1500's Spanish galleons carried vast amounts of American gold, silver and other jewels. They took this treasure over the Atlantic Ocean. Even though these vessels were heavily armed, they were slow, and attracted pirates like bees to honey.

Like Bees To Honey!

In the early 1500's, Spanish galleons carried vast amounts of American gold, silver, and other jewels. They took it over the Atlantic Ocean. These heavily armed vessels attracted pirates like bees to their honey!

Pirate Robbers

Pirates are robbers that sail the seas, attacking ports and ships, stealing treasures and other goods. About 500 years ago, the Indian Ocean and South China Seas were no place for merchant boats because of the dangers of pirates. They are still threats today!
I think pirates are selfish and greedy!

Vodafone Warriors

Warriors are ranked 5!!! On the NRL(National Rugby League) ladder and they have a very strong defence line this year and that helps them to keep the other team from getting above their score. The warriors have won to very strong side and has earned their position.they even beat number2 on the NRL ladder, the mighty Panthers which in the start of the year macicated the warriors in round 2,3, or round 4.The Panthers have been really impressive this year, in fact they are very talented.

Warriors are my Number 1 team, plus the Titans.when I grow up my goal is to get into NRL and be are very famous player.I have a club that I play for called Mt Wellington Warriors and we are also a very good team.

Canada Day!

Today was Canada Day, and Room 18, stuck with a crazy canuck as their teacher were dubbed "honorary" Canadians and coerced into the celebration by joining forces with the other canucks in Room 12 and singing some songs with a bit of a northern flavor for the rest of the school. They did a terrific job of singing the national anthem, complete with one verse in french, and then followed it with a folk song that was sung as a round. This was the movie that followed, highlighting Canadianism. We hope you enjoy it!

Come visit Rangitoto!

Hey, come and have a great day here at Rangitoto! This dormant volcano has some great views of Maungakiekie along with other volcanoes in the area.
Rangitoto has a fantastic view of the largest pohutukawa forest in New Zealand. You will enjoy seeing this forest as you walk the well-marked trails on the way to the summit.
It is symmetrical, because when it erupted, the top of the mountain got sucked inside. The mountain looks like it has a cone with pointy ends on top, with the sides being long and narrow.
Did you know that Rangitoto is Auckland’s youngest volcano? Even though it is young it is the largest volcano in the Auckland area.
If you haven’t been to this amazing island, you need to make plans to visit soon!

Come and visit Rangitoto

Rangitoto is located in Auckland’s volcanic field. If you want to visit this island, you would have to take the ferry service. If you and your friends go to Rangitoto you will see many beautiful views along with the largest pohutukawa forest in all of New Zealand.

Wednesday, June 23, 2010

Welcome to Rangitoto

Rangitoto is Auckland’s youngest volcano and has been around for 600 years, and has a name that means “bloody sky.”

A volcano works when magma is in the magma chamber and then it builds up too much pressure and soon after, it explodes. When it blasts, the top may come off, but now the magma is called lava. Some of the lava might escape from little gaps called vents, along with rocks and ash. Every time a volcano erupts, it builds more and more layers. The more layers there are, the more a volcano has erupted.

If you ever get the chance to hike up Rangitoto, you will not only see a true standing volcano, but you will also be treated to an awesome view from the top. It may take a long time, but it is worth it!

Queensland

Queensland is my favourite state of origin team, state of origin is like rugby league but it is between two different Australian teams called Queensland and New South Wales. These two enemies are created by the NRL Australian squads, selected by the coach and manager?

I go for Queensland because they are the best team and got the best NRL players as well as
New South Wales, they have one of My favourite people in NRL, Jared Hayne
On wednesday the 27th 2010 they played head to head together and it was a good challenge but Queensland came out on top with a 28-24 score to queensland as Darius Boyed scored the first try well as and Sam Thaiday scored the last closing try.

General Scrab - poem

Once, long ago there was a General named Scrab,
Who wanted all the land that his men could grab.
So he said to his scientist, "think up a plan,
As despicable, and crafty as ever that you can."
"I want to take over the land of Justavia!
It's that little country, right next to Balavia.
But no one must know that we've thought up the plan,
Or they'll be here to kill us, each member of our clan."
So the scientist went away, to sort out a plot,
Or they knew that in a dungeon they would all surely rot.
Then atlast they had a plan that was safe and sound...
Erupting volcanoes would rock Justavia's ground!
But the smart Justavians were quickly onto Scrab.
We'll find a way to make the General blab.
So they went off to Bismo to stop Scrab's rotten plot,
And put that old general in a dungeon to rot.
The moral of the story is, if you want a happy life,
Live with those around you,
And don't cause any strife.

House Of Fire

Hot searing flames burst out of the house, roof, and broken windows as an earthquake causes the electrical lines to collapse. Sparking power lines collapse, adding massive amounts of fire. The red hot lava-like inferno travels through the neighbourhood.

Danger In The Neighbourhood

Hot flaming fire bursts through smashed windows, broken by a destructive earthquake. Collapsed power lines fall, leaning heavily on scorched buildings, adding to the tremendous searing heat. Billowing clouds of black, greasy smoke rise as the fire continues to cause havoc in the neighbourhood.

Wednesday, May 19, 2010

Neighborhood Taken Down By Earthquake!

As the red-hot embers of fire, caused by an earthquake, made the billowing clouds of deadly smoke rise, it covered the entire neighborhood. The searing heat of flames challenged people to protect themselves as they struggled to breathe the smoky air. The neighborhood was left with nothing but rubble and debris along with burnt, scorched buildings and trees.

Tuesday, May 18, 2010

Destructive Power Of Earthquakes

Sparking power lines add to an earthquake's destruction by igniting fires. Billowing clouds of black, greasy smoke fill the air as flames of yellow and orange, engulf buildings. A trail of blackened debris and rubble grows, as walls, roofs, and scorched fallen trees are quickly consumed.

How Is An Earthquake Measured?

I am going to explain what happens in an earthquake and how it is measured. When plates in the earth's crust grind against each other, often these plates fracture, or break. If this happens, an earthquake will most certainly occur. To help us measure the magnitude(size) of the quake, seismologists use the Richter Scale to give it a measurement between 3.5 and 8(check out the chart below). A 3.4 on the Richter Scale wouldn't be felt by most people, but an 8 would most definitely be felt! If you enjoyed hearing about the Richter Scale, you should check out the Mercalli Scale and investigate the difference.

Earthquake Severity

Richter Earthquake
Magnitudes Effects

Less than 3.5 Generally not felt, but recorded.

3.5-5.4 Often felt, but rarely causes damage.

Under 6.0 At most slight damage to well-designed buildings.
Can cause major damage to poorly constructed buildings
over small regions.

6.1-6.9 Can be destructive in areas up to about 100 kilometers
across where people live.

7.0-7.9 Major earthquake. Can cause serious damage over larger areas.

8 or greater Great earthquake. Can cause serious damage in areas several
hundred kilometers across.

Multiplication movie

Hello, we are learning about basic facts and multiplication this term. I don't know them very well, but I have been practising them more. We are making a movie about or sixes to help us to know them better. I am currently learning more about my sixes so I can make our movie look better. I hope you watch our movie when it is finished and I hope that it helps you know your facts better than you already do.

Einsteins Math Movie

Hi, this is a member of the Einsteins here to tell you about a movie that we will be doing. I hope that the people who are having difficulty with the four times table learn heaps and are able to do them quicker after watching our movie. There will be pictures showing the equations as well as singing, acting and songs created on Garage Band. I hope by the time I look at this again that there are some comments. Check back if you can because the movie will be great!

We are getting better!

My name is Misi and I am learning about facts and multiplication this term. So far, I am studying the 8 times table. As you are reading this, we are making a movie to show you how much better we are getting at the 8 times tables. If you would like to watch our movie, you could go to Room 18's blog and check it out when it is completed

Active Earth

This term we are learning about Active Earth. We are first studying about volcano's and how they have eruptions. Volcano's need pressure so they can erupt. Yesterday we were doing experiments of pressure on balloons. Here is some information for you to read.

The earth's core has magma that makes it's way to a volcano.
Volcanos can erupt under water.
Active volcanos can erupt.
Dormant volcanos erupted ages's ago and it might again someday.
Extinct volcanos don't erupt.

Pressure!

This term we are currently learning about volcanos and the active earth. We are mainly learning about pressure right now. Without pressure, there would not be volcanos around and there wouldn't be many other things that we take for granted in life. Do you use things that are under pressure in your life?

We are learning our 8 times tables!

We are learning our 8 times table. Eight times tables can give you some difficulty and that's why I'm making a movie for you, so you children can try and get better and better. Owning Our Facts!

We are always looking for new and exciting ways to help us to learn and remember our math facts. Having more than a little difficulty with our eight times tables, this video was made just for us. It is allowing us in Room 18 to not only find our groove and bust some moves, but also the opportunity to "GRAB THOSE EIGHTS" Hope it helps you as much as it helps us! Stay posted for our multiplication video that will soon replace this one on our blog. Thanks for checking in on us!

Gold Coast Titans

The titans are one of the teams I go for this year.for there first few games they have won most of them so that's a good start for them.

My favourite people in the team is Preston Cambells and Scott Prince.

The game I like the best that they've played is against is the storm because they just won by a drop goal and it was a even all so then they they got another penalty and got another kick at goal.
I hope they get a chance to wan the NRL because that will be the first time.

GO TITANS!!!!!!

Partnership, Participation and Protection!

We have been studying about the history of New Zealand and the importance of Partnership, Participation and Protection if people are going to work well together. Were these ideals that were only important in the past with the development and signing of the Treaty of Waitangi, or are they still relevant and important today? Watch our movie and see some of the awesome work from the amazing crew of Room 18!

Orienteering

When we did orienteering I was partnered up with Annexe. When we got to Tusi Tala Mr J was already waiting for us. He said to pick one person to be A and one person to be B because we were getting mixed up. When it was time to go we had to start by room 4 with number 16. When we started to get the clues we kept going back to the same letter all over the place. We asked Miss Squires if she could help us but she couldn't get the word. Then the trumpet rang and we had to go back to Mr J.

Ten Pin Bowling

As soon as we got to Ten Pin Bowling we told the man what shoes we wanted . We played with heaps of people on my team,Team Spirit. I came third over all. I think I was the best player although I'm really not good at all. Some people thought I was really good at bowling. We still had tons of fun because we had heaps of good players on my team. I had lots of fun and I really got to know people better. We experienced a lot more things at camp. I learned that winning doesn't mean you rub it in people's faces.

Camp Cooking

At camp, TLC went to camp cooking. We made damper on a wet bamboo stick. We had to cook it over fire for a long time. When we finished we ate it. It tasted nice because it had raisins.

Rockclimbing

Hello,
Pt.England school this is my writing about Rockclimbing. When T.L.C was Rockclimbing, Raenen got half way and he got stuck when there were tiny rocks. T.L.C was about to go ten pin bowling when the instructors said that Nichole was going to climb the hooks. When she was climbing upside down then everyone in T.L.C was cheering for her. At Rockclimbing my favorite one was the jack and the beanstalk.

New Zealand History

This movie represents what happened way back in the day when Maori's arrived in New Zealand and then what happened when Captain Cook and his crew arrived in New Zealand and invaded. This happened before the treaty of Waitangi.

Kayaking at camp

On the second day of camp, we were the last group to go kayaking. When we got there it was low tide so we had more problems to deal with than other groups. I really enjoyed kayaking even though we had to carry them to the beginning of the water.

Roller blading

Slipping and getting hurt, we were skating. I think Erene kept on falling down and that's how he got an injury on his head. When I got my roller blades I said to myself "can I skate?" When I first went in the circle I thought it was easy and then I fell down.

Rock climbing

Have you ever been rock climbing? Well let me tell about this time I went rock climbing. When I first went rock climbing I was scared but then I overcame my fear of heights. The first wall I went on was the letter wall. I saw the big wall, I was wondering if I was allowed to go on it, but I was to scared.

Rockclimbing

When we went rockclimbing we had instructions about our harnesses. One of the teachers had to hold tight to our ropes to hold us. Rockclimbing was so fun! I was nearly to the top!

Skating

While learning how to rollerskate, I felt like I was going to fall.Rollerskating slower than everyone else, it was embarassing. This was the first time in my life to be skating. As one of the teachers helped, I began to get the hang of it.

Rockclimbing

Rockclimbing was so much fun but I didn't like the part when I came back down because it felt like you were dropping off a tall tower. Nervously climbing up one of the highest walls, I wondered to myself,"can I do this?" When one of the parent helpers made the rope tight for me to climb up, I knew that it would be alright.

What if I learned to rollerskate?

Learning how to rollerskate on wheels. I felt like I was going to fall because someone pushed me to the ground. I stand up and chase that person. And when I was riding I slipped and hit my head to the ground again and I felt so sad. At the end of skate I felt so excited because that person said they were so sorry. And then we jumped in the car and went to rock climbing.

The Wednesday Camp

HI! There is a great team called TEAM SPIRT! The first day of camp was super fun and was heaps of exercise. One of first things we did was camp cooking with Mrs Flavle. We made rice crackles and green lamingtons. After that we had morning tea and wait here is one of the coolest things that you do. When your not travelling everywhere, you go out canoeing, or as some other people say kayaking. The first time you do it, it's a bit hard but then you get the hang of it and you get better and have loads more of fun. The last thing we did was Orienteering which was held by Mr J. He tells you what to do. You get to do 1 course for your warm up. There are 5 cards that are coloured red and they are in the same area. Then straight after that we do a coures with yellow cards and there are 27 cards to find. All you need is a compass and an answer sheet with a pencil. When that was over we had afternoon tea and went to the hall, got our bags and set up our beds for Wednesday night.

Hovercraft Mania!

Riding a hovercraft has been a new and exciting experience

for the students in Room 18. Interest has moved beyond our

classroom , and as the pictures depict, even adults have

been jumping at the opportunity to float about on this unique

and intriguing machine. Hmmm, I wonder which staff member

will be next to go for a spin. Stay tuned for further updates.

A Fast Hovercraft

Have you been on a fast, floating hovercraft before? I have, and I think it is wonderful.

The Hovercraft Surprise

Have you ever wanted to ride a fast, floating cushion of air? Well, I have, and sometimes it feels like I am driving a really fast car without wheels. We ride it early in the morning sometimes, and we call it THE HOVERCRAFT! Some people think that someone is mowing the lawn because the hovercraft sounds like a lawnmower but it isn't. It is the sound of the leaf blower that is blowing air for us to ride on. It is lots of fun and I was ecstatic when I got to ride on it and I think you would enjoy it too.

The Future

Guess what? Have you ever seen someone floating on air? I have, because Mr Barks brought a hovercraft to school. He said that it was from his old students from Waimokoia, but the students who made the hovercraft let us use it. After lunch we had a go on it. It was so fun, cool, and hot.

The Future Ride

On my way to school, I could not believe my eyes because there were people riding on a hovercraft.

The Most Special Machine Ever

Can you believe that Mr Barks brought a hovercraft into school. The first time Mr Barks brought in the hovercraft, we went outside to try it out. Lepa started it up so we could ride on it. It was so cool. Have you ever smelt something that smelt so horrible? Ok, I have, and I have seen it too. It is a hovercraft that is made out of a leaf blower engine. It is a special machine.

The Floating Cushion

Have you ever been for a ride on a cushion of air? Well I have. It is called a hovercraft. I would like to tell you about my amazing experience on this machine. Yesterday afternoon I got to ride up and down the path on this hovercraft. Students from Room 18 couldn't wait to have an opportunity to ride on it. There was a lot of shouting and screaming for joy and happiness. I hope I get another turn soon!

The Amazing Hovercraft

The most unusual thing happened yesterday. Mr. Barks brought a surprise to class, it was a hovercraft and it sounded exciting. Room 18 went outside went outside to test it out. Lepa, Jephte and Naomi were given the opportunity to fire it up. Lepa was able to start it, so he got to go first. The motor was loud and sounded like a motorbike. I didn't get a chance to float on it yet, but I will, and I feel excited to the max! I think it will be amazing!

My Amazing Ride On A Hovercraft. Chelsea

Have you ever been for a ride on a cushion of air? Well, I have, and it is called a hovercraft. I would like to tell you about my amazing experience on this machine. Yesterday afternoon, I got to ride a hovercraft going up and down the path. It has a big leaf blower on it to make it move. When Sifa finished having his turn he picked me. I was so excited! Just as I started to hop on, the motor scared me with it's big noise. I sat down and held the throttle. As soon as Mr Barks pushed me, I started to scream because the exhaust was a little hot and my foot was next to it. When I hopped off, I stopped screaming. This was the day when I rode an amazing machine.

Napier Holiday

In the holidays, I went to Napier with my mum and my brother in a van. I asked my mum how long it would take to get to Napier and she said it would take about five hours. I was thinking, "holy snap!" On the way to Napier I saw this skinny bridge that trains go on and my brother told me that he had been there before. When we go to Taupo, we stopped to get something to eat at Burger King. After that we continued our adventure to Napier. When we got to the mountains, I saw this funny shaped hill that looked like it was floating in the air, just like in the movie Avatar. When we got to my cousins, I got out of the van and ran inside to hug my aunty, uncle and cousin. I then asked if I could go in the spa pool and my uncle Tony said "yes," so me and my brother ran to get dressed in our togs. When we got in it felt cold even though it was 30 degrees Celcius. We only stayed for one day, but we had fun.

My Summer

On Thursday during the holidays, at Sylvia Park, there was some movie watching that was happening at Hoyts. I was part of a group that was watching the movie called "Twilight New Moon." There were some comical and some scary parts in the movie. The audience seemed to be enjoying the movie. This included everyone in my family except ME. I was busy eating the popcorn - no sharing, just minding my own business like a regular 10 year old boy. At the end of the movie, I asked if I could have one more icecream. The answer was no! My family made comments and compliments about the movie and then began to ask me questions. I had no answers, so they asked my mum. Most of the questions or comments were about something FANTASTIC about the movie.

My Summer

In the holidays, I went to Panoma with my family to my aunty's house. When we got there we went to our treehouse up in the tree. After that we had to go inside to eat a barbeque. When we finished, we went back outside to the treehouse. My aunty called me to help her to cook food for Monday. It was all so cool!

My Summer

In the holidays, I went to my aunty's house to have a barbeque. After we had a barbeque, we went to the pools in Panmure. It was so cool and cold out, but then the sun came out. I went down the slide and then I ran and jumped into the cold pool. This was a great day!

My Summer Fun Day

On a lovely Saturday morning, my cousin Brandee and I had breakfast, got dressed and ready for our fun day and went to the car.

When we got to the car, we played with my little cousin and Brandee's little sister Prayer. As soon as we got to our Nana Aloma's house, we got out and started talking to our family. Soon after that we hopped back into the car and went to the botanical gardens for our fun day. When the rest of the family got there, we played soccer. During soccer we sorted out who was going to be in groups and whoever got a goal got to stay on as the champions. We beat nearly all of them!

A couple of hours later, we had some lunch and drinks. Soon after that we played tag and sorted out two teams, but we decided to have two of the teams play as one in a big game of tag. We played this tag game for three hours.

We finished tag and packed up before it started to rain. When we got to our Nana Aloma's house we played volleyball. After that we got dinner ready and we had a sausage sizzle and hot chips. When dinner was finished, we got our beds ready and hopped into bed to watch a movie. We had my cousin Prayer in the middle of me and Brandee, but then Prayer got sick. She spewed up on our bed and pillows! When the bed was cleaned up we had some popcorn and chips before we went to sleep.

This was the most fun I've had on a holiday in my life because we played games all day and didn't have to get growled at all day!

Basketball Fun

In the holidays, me, my sister, and my nephew went to AMF Bowling. I had only ten dollars to spend, but my sister gave me another twenty dollars so that was pretty cool. I played the little basketball game the most. When I got the tickets, I got a prize. I had a lot of fun!

Waiwera Accident

In my holidays I went to a place called Waiwera. While we were there, my cousin had an accident because he was running across to me to get his money. This didn't happen because my cousin slipped in the pool. One thing that was lucky though, was that we got to stay there until seven O'clock at night. When we got home I had to go to bed.

Tree Climbing

It was a day when I went out with my family. It was on the second of December and it was my aunty's birthday. The first thing we were asked to do when we got to the tree climbing place was to put on the safety belt. Then we got told what to do so we wouldn't kill ourselves. There were 100 levels and I was so happy to go first. I got up to level 17 and my aunty's got up to level 9 but they were tired. My cousins got up to the log level which was level 15. I was the winner and I got a prize. My family did not get a prize. After that we got fish and chips and then we went home. It was the best day ever!

Secret Waterfalls

My favourite summer day was when I went with my mum and my family to our secret place called the WATERFALLS. It's our secret place because no one knows where it is. The waterfalls is the coldest place ever and the most fun place ever too. My aunty and my uncle chucked me into the water and I froze. I didn't move or talk, I just feel the coldness around me. I stayed in for a while and swam all around the place. We stayed until the afternoon before we got out, packed our stuff and went home. I love going to our secret place!

My Summer With My Family

In the holidays I went to a Bidois reunion in Tauranga with my mum, sisters, brothers, aunties, and my baby cousin. When we we got there, I met a lot of my family that I didn't know. I said "hello" to all my cousins, aunties, uncles, nanas and also my papas. Some of the kids were wet because they were playing in the swimming pool while the rest were playing basketball on the front lawn. It was a fun day, but my favourite part was eating scrumptious food with the kids after all the fun had ended.

My Awesome Holidays

One Friday during the holidays, I went to Fun Fest. It was so fun because all of the rides were free. It was cool that I went on almost all of the rides. I didn't go on one because it looked very dangerous and my mum told me not to go on it. After the rides were finished we went home, but before we got home we stopped by Cornwall Park and we ate a little and then we went home to have a little nap. This was a good day!

Holiday Adventures

In the holidays it was my birthday and my nana's birthday. We went to the Waiwera pools. I went down the gutbuster. I also went fishing, and my papa caught a fish. We went diving for shell fish too. It was fun fishing.

Fun With My Family

In my holiday, I went to the Time Out Zone in the ten pin bowling centre at Mount Wellington. My mum won a lot of money in the little casino by the pool tables. We played a lot of games. My favourite game was the stacking game because, you can win some pretty cool prizes on it. It was cool and fun playing pool with my younger brother too. This was a very fun night with my family.

Short but Sweet Slide

In the holidays, I went for a swim at the swimarama pools in Panmure. When we got there, I got changed into my togs quickly because I couldn't wait to go down the hydroslide. Running quickly up the stairs, I saw there was hardly anyone there so I got to go down first. It was dark when I went down but it was so much fun that I wanted to go down a second time. Sadly enough, I had to go. Even though I only got to take one turn it was still a lot of fun.
